I heard from Costco employee, he said one guy bought 100 rice bags, another guy bought 75+ bags, another bought 50 bags. I asked, how can you guys allow them to buy that many? But no answer.

A lot of restaurants/people buy in bulk from costco. That's y they allow. If there is some news or offer they usually put a limit. By the time they realized, most of it must have gone.

I was in indian store yesterday evening for regular groceries. It was all normal. Saw news in DB last night and today saw all crazy news. We got rice bag from costco (40lbs) last week and it will run for very long time as we use brown rice, quinoa, wheat flour, bread, etc. I don't understand this craze as if world is ending.

Few years back we had a White elephant gift exchange during thanksgiving/christmas. Everyone gets a gift (<$20) wrapped and keeps on a table. Our CIO calls people randomly and asks to pick a gift, unwrap and if they dont like it, gives a choice to exchange it for something that other may have got early. Its a fun game and you don't know what you end up with until end. Every year there is a hit item which switches hands. Usually its not something that's not of value but something funny.

One year, we hired a lot of desi contractors and that year the hit item for Desis was a "boom box that runs on a CD player". Most desi's esp new contractors went crazy about it. We were wondering why so much craze as audio CD's were replaced by mp3's. In the end our CIO made a subtle comment "I am surprised by the demand for this one, I didn't think Boom box CD player is still in demand and in use". We felt so embarrassed.

Atluntadi mana desi'la thoni..
