I personally don't think these tests are needed. As long as the person is smart enough to figure out the solution, its enough. Interview should be based on the persons ability to put together architecture/solutions, troubleshoot problems, etc.

For e.g. ask them what do you need for an FTP connection. Not "Tell me the command for FTP"
