The practice of noting down the serial number of a laptop that is being taken into the country temporarily was there many years before. In fact I believe they do that with very expensive electronics when you declare you will take them back on your way back abroad.

I was surprised by this post. If the customs guys start taking away laptop from everyone who is traveling temporarily into India , it would be a huge stack of laptops every hour . 
customs can’t even maintain the inventory of such a huge number of laptops.

Also no foreigners on business trip would be interested in visiting India if they seize his laptop.

Is there any one else or Someone who knows who travelled into India for a visit after Thursday faced similar situation?

Common sense tho alochinchu Anna, what interest govt would have to hold your used and stinking work laptops?? They might not allow brand new ones without paying customs duty fee but not the used/personal laptops.  Just spam/fear mongering thread anthe.
