Haha. I saw the same. I am amazed at how much these lambadis work. Morning they work in homes as helpers. Evenings they work on jonna rotte, etc. Nights some of them work as chex workers. I was really shocked in feb when I visited india. My dad gave me a good summary of all the things that happen there and I saw with my own eyes.

so you should understand their frustration of dealing with home owners acting like they own them, because they pay a couple thousands for a couple hours work a day.

the service is underpriced, and the people offering that service live in horrible conditions. they are not paid enough to live comfortably..

I would have agreed with you before but not now. I have seen the places these people live and the amount of money they make. You would be surprised.

This situation is gone long back. Even when I was in India (15-18 yrs back), our neighbour aunty used to make breakfast and tea and used to treat helper like a god. Even when she lost some money or ornaments she never pointed towards helper. Things have changed since long back.

House helpers are ruling last 15 yrs and now have taken their game to next level - only coz people cant do their basic work and rely on them.

My mom never had them coz she does not trust them. They are getting old now, helpers are not ready to work for her now as mom wont agree to their demands. mom's fine, says she will take care of house.

I’m thinking to marry a maid from village , such that she can be helpful to mother and for me as a wife… no it, doctor or any profession.

strictly a village maid

Good idea.

I've actually lived in the places they live. so I know what I'm talking about.

there are many different types of these househelps. migrant househelps live in squalor, and uncertain housing conditions. househelps who are from the local area have a much better life.

No, its not similar to any trade. the market has driven down the price of househelp to the bottom. why do you think they have organized as a union?

people who can't do basic stuff themselves are horrible people.

your parents are decent.

They have made life hell of others who tried to work as helpers in our community. They even bashed people who do not listen to them or join their association. They want to control price, demands, etc.

I understand what you are saying but I have not seen those conditions at least in last 15 yrs.

In our colony a lambadi family put a small stall on ring road and sell tiffin's in morning and make 1-2 lakhs/day. Not sure where they live. I am happy for them as they put a lot of substandard restaurants out of business and making money.

Same with lambadi's working as home helpers, selling jonna-rotis and even working as sex workers. They are making a lot of money. Again I do not know where they live, but they make a lof of money.

Its not the same situation as some decades back. I absolutely am with hard working class who don't earn enough money.

haha.. not long back I remember Hyd police commissioner or someone giving a public announcement about not hiring house helps without sufficient background checks.

doesn't sound like a career that is popular with the police. hmmm..

I think you are extrapolating from your personal experience. You may have met a couple of assertive househelps. doesn't mean they are all living the high life.

if it was true, hiring them would be expensive in India.

Absolutely agree with demand and supply. This situation arised because people cant do basic work and got dependent on these people.

Of late their demands have gotten out of hand. I guess its because of the demand they have. Makes sense.

dude, no one should hire house helps in the first place is my point.

if parents are old, they should go into living assistance or live with their kids or relatives. lets not pretend like maids are getting wealthy on the 5k per month we dish out.  that's like an estate owner claiming that because his slaves got richer than him, which means all slaves are richer than their respective owners.

the work is underpriced, and just because a few of them are smart enough to work that system to their benefit, doesn't mean the price we pay maids is the right price.

Panimanishi's in hyderabad are ruling. There was a time when they used to ask for work. Now they pick and choose who they work for. Probably a result of ppl getting dependent on them for day to day works.

Which is a positive sign of society advancing , hopefully everyone gets respectable jobs and stop doing unskilled work

that's why I said that it is the second evil, which spawned from the first evil of lazy people who can't cook their own food, clean their own toilets etc.

they learnt from the middle class on how to secure their wages with violence. This is what communism teaches.. absolute brain dead ideology.

I am talking about a city (Hyderabad) and housekeep in our community. Of course no background checks. They all make good money as I know how much neighbors pay.

My dad till today cleans the tree leaf's fallen in our house (we have trees around house and a big plot). Hez paralyzed but still does this and says he don't care what others think and its exercise for him and he enjoys doing this. Same with mom. She does all her work.

But they are getting old (75 and 70). I keep an eye on these developments coz at some point they have to take help. Mom talked about the incident of housekeep holding owner's neck today evening and I was shocked. Hence the post.

still a lot of NRIs main reason about moving to India is to be able to afford house help.

Its demand-supply.

I am fine with them demanding money for the work they do. But they need to be respectful to people taking thier services. I also expect people to deal with them respectfully taking their services.
