10L bogus votes deleted in Telangana, 50% of them in Hyderabad

Over half of the deleted 10 lakh duplicate voters in Telangana are from constituencies in and around Greater Hyderabad.

Quthbullapur, Serilingampally and LB Nagar assembly constituencies were found to have the maximum number of weeded out duplicate votes. Around 10 lakh duplicate electors were weeded out in Telangana. Of them, 50,000 were from Quthbullapur.

The maximum number of duplicate voters were found in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Karimnagar and Nizamabad Urban, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Telangana chief electoral officer Vikas Raj said: "There are three grounds for deletion of entries from the electoral roll. Multiple entries are multiple similar entries /demographic similar entries generated by the system or reported by individuals, officers and political parties. In these cases, the elector's name, relation's name and type, age, gender and address are same or one entry is different."

"Shifted electors are cases where an elector applies for shifting of residence/change of address through Form-8, for addition at the new place by new ERO and simultaneous deletion of names from the previous place of registration by the previous ERO. It can also be done by the intimation of elector not residing at the address may come from any source, including through Form-7," he added.

"We have followed due procedure on deletion of duplicate votes," the CEO said.
Vikas Raj scrutinised ECI circular regarding removal of shifted voters and discussed the efficient disposal of related forms. The meeting also addressed issues related to corrections in names and addresses, aiming to ensure accuracy and accessibility.

My dad asked me recently, if I still want to keep my vote or give it up. I think officials may have reached out to him. I asked to keep. Not sure if its right to do.
