Spartan Posted September 12, 2023 Report Posted September 12, 2023 Thousands of people are feared dead in Libya after Storm Daniel brought so much rain to the northeast that two dams collapsed in one region, sweeping entire neighborhoods into the sea. More than 2,000 people have died and about 6,000 more are missing in the badly affected city of Derna, said Othman Abduljalil, the health minister in Libya’s eastern parliament-backed government. “The situation [in Derna] was catastrophic… The bodies are still lying in many places,” Abduljalil told Libya’s Almasar TV from Derna on Monday. Describing Derna as a “ghost town,” Abduljalil said parts of the city had been isolated by flooding. He appealed to the international community for help, saying authorities need search and rescue teams. Libya’s Red Crescent Society earlier estimated that more than 300 people had died in Derna, according to a post on social media. Ahmed Mismari, spokesperson for the eastern based Libyan National Army (LNA), said two dams had collapsed under the pressure of flooding. “As a consequence, three bridges were destroyed. The flowing water carried away entire neighborhoods, eventually depositing them into the sea,” he said. 2 Quote

Could be…there is so much of oil that’s being drilled out each day and imagine all this oil is present in thin layers and one fine day when the oil is sucked out of these layers, there may be a gap in between these layers and techtonic plates may slide over each other…may not ne in near future but.
