Hike annadi most organizations lo standard. If it was 2.5-4% before, range will be 0.5-2.0 this year untundi. 

Regarding promotions, I don't understand it needs a position or a opportunity to exist. It does not matter much on recession or market. Some orgs have Grade's. If standard is 4 promotions max per year, they may reduce to 2 that year. But I did not see many orgs reduce promotions.

During recession, most companies clean house. Meaning non-performing employees and product groups who are not in future plans for that company are let go.
