dasari4kntr Posted September 16, 2023 Author Report Posted September 16, 2023 Multidimensional poverty, as conceptualized by NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), is an approach to poverty that considers multiple factors and dimensions rather than just income or monetary measures. NITI Aayog introduced a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) to gauge poverty levels in India more comprehensively. The MPI assesses deprivation in various dimensions such as: 1. **Health** - based on indicators like nutrition and child mortality. 2. **Education** - measured through factors like years of schooling and school attendance. 3. **Standard of Living** - evaluated using multiple indicators like cooking fuel, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, housing, and assets. States and Union Territories are then ranked based on their MPI scores, which helps policymakers identify the areas that require the most urgent attention and design interventions accordingly. The goal is to understand and address poverty in a holistic manner, acknowledging that it encompasses multiple aspects of human well-being. Quote
