Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday will lay the foundation stone for an upcoming international cricket stadium in Varanasi. The spiritual city is set to become a cricketing powerhouse with a state-of-the-art stadium, equipped with cutting-edge facilities.

According to a report carried by Dainik Jagran, an approximate sum of ₹350 crore will be spent on the construction of the stadium which will be built on a wide campus of about 31 acres and will have seven pitches. The venue is expected to accommodate 30,000 spectators at a time.

The infrastructure of the facility will depict the city’s devotion to Lord Shiva. It has been learned that the entire stadium will have a crescent-shaped roof - that crowns the Indian God, and the floodlights designed like a trident. The entrance and the lounge will resemble Lord Shiva’s damru while the exterior of the arena  will feature huge motifs of  wood apple leaves in metallic frames

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a verified account on microblogging site X – Indian Tech & Infra – shared the virtual images of the stadium in Varanasi.

“PM Modi to lay the foundation of the International cricket stadium at Kashi, Uttar Pradesh on September 23rd,” the caption of the post read.

The media report also stated that the event on Saturday will be attended by the greats of Indian cricket, including legendary Sunil Gavaskar, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and former India head coach Ravi Shastri. The likes of BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajeev Shukla will also be present at the event.

As reported by the Hindustan Times earlier in June, the BCCI will operate the stadium and as per a long-term lease agreement, the board will take responsibility for the stadium’s operation and management.

The report further quoted former India all-rounder Suresh Raina expressing his over a brand new facility to empower the game in Uttar Pradesh.

Good to show our culture to the world . Especially during commercial breaks, the way they show Australia or Sri Lanka during cricket match.
