T SUbbi Rami Reddy defended his decision to rename the auditorium after Rajiv Gandhi, as Telugu had lost its relevance in the present generation. “People need to remember Rajiv than Telugu. He is more important than anything else,” he asserted.

hief Minister K Rosaiah is in a tricky situation over the increasing demand for the removal of Rajiv Gandhi’s name from the Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam, the state-run auditorium in Public Gardens in Hyderabad.

Rosaiah had issued orders renaming the auditorium after Rajiv Gandhi following a representation from former union minister and Rajya Sabha member T Subbarami Reddy. Though he had restored the word Telugu in the auditorium name, the political parties and individuals have been demanding that there should not be Rajiv’s name at all.

Rosaiah is now in a tricky situation. He cannot revoke the order, since it would anger the high command. He also needs to pamper the Delhi bosses. At the same time, he cannot silence the critics. He expressed helplessness in this regard, stating that it was the policy of the government to oblige the requests of donors to rename the projects funded by them.
