Extended EAD Validity
The USCIS has declared its intention to extend the maximum validity period of EADs to five years, a considerable increase from the current one to two years. This change applies to specific non-citizens who need to apply for employment authorization, providing them with a more extended period of job security and stability. However, it’s important to note that the employment authorization of a non-citizen will still be dependent on their underlying status and circumstances.

Impact on Indian Immigrants
This policy shift is expected to have a significant positive impact on the Indian community in the US, many of whom have been waiting for their green cards for years. With over 1.05 million Indians currently in the queue for an employment-based Green Card, this move could provide much-needed relief and security. Additionally, this comes as a beacon of hope for the estimated 400,000 Indians who could otherwise pass away before receiving their Green Cards due to the extensive backlog.
