Angry over daughters joining police, Naxals kill father

Raipur: Angered over two sisters joining the Chhattisgarh Police, Naxals shot dead their father in Kanker district, police said today.

The Naxals were apparently angry over the victim Dhansai Kovasi (65) as his two daughters had joined police force and he had refused to budge under the ultras' pressure asking him to force them to quit the force, they said.

On Monday night, a band of around 30 rebels attacked Kovasi's house in Karaki village and beat him mercilessly before they shot him dead, Kanker district SP Ajay Yadav said.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits, he said, adding that relatives of policemen in the district have been assured security.

Kovasi's daughters Uma and Nirmala had joined the police force in 2006 and are posted in Narayanpur and Kanker districts respectively, police said................................................. #$1 #$1 #$1
