What is the most cosmopolitan city in India?

When I say cosmopolitan, I mean a place with different cultures/communities living together comfortably. They are open to try new things and interact with others, rather than staying segregated in own in-group. I know communal and language riots are a thing, but some places still maintain that cosmopolitan spirit. They can even win elections despite being from an outside minor demographic community.

  1. Mumbai is definitely the most cosmopolitan. True cultural diversity from all communities and faiths in India. Despite Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, and Pakistan antics, Mumbai is welcoming place for all backgrounds.
  2. Bangalore is second place thanks to Vijayanagara Empire and tech boom. Deccan states are typically known for this.
  3. Chennai used to be more cosmopolitan but economic rise of other states and Tamil Dravidianism have slowed it down.
  4. Delhi could be more cosmopolitan but it’s dominated by Khatris, Jats, Gujjars, UP Muslims, and Yadavs.
  5. Hyderabad is still manavallu area despite Urdu batch in old city.

What do you guys think?

Mumbai and Bangalore. Hyderabad lost it with the Telangana movement. Settlers from other regions came in and stole the city.

Settlers from which regions? Was Hyderabad more cosmopolitan before Dora rule?

Rural areas of Telangana, Andhra, Rayalaseema, and Maharashtra.

Yes, it was. The core Hyderabadis never cared about caste, religion, or region. Even if caste existed, we respected it as a cultural identity, not a way to spew hatred. We respected and helped each other. We still do. As Hyderabad grew, these caste and regional fanatics got included and started owning the city.
