Russian crude is for re-sale in the market, not for domestic consumption. There are sanctions against Russian Crude. I.e. if Indian PSU Oil marketing companies like IOC, BP and Hindustan, they will be sanctioned against making payments and insurances. So, in-spite of getting russian crude at discount, we do not refine and use it in domestic market. Stare run PSU’s still buy from Saudi, Iraq and supply in domestic markets, the one we get to pay at the pump. Only one major refiner buying the crude i.e. Nayara Energy. This is owned by Rosneft which is Russian PSU. It was Essar Energy previously which when went bankrupt, is now owned by Rosneft and other investors who essentially are Russian oligarchs. Other than Nayara, Ambani owned Reliance ia buying the crude. The crude thus refined, is being resold in the markets. You will be surprised but we sold refined petrol, diesel and ATF to middle east countries too apart from south asian countries. This is a whole new market which was never explored earlier. Crude is being bought from Russian ghost tankers and mid-sea crude transfers and being bought to Vadinar refinery in Gujarat to refine and sold as ‘made in india’ product, originated from India which has no sanctions and is a hot commodity in sea shipments. -
