It’s a safer way to get a sense of someone’s mindset before talking about any kind of arrangement. I didn't experience it ,i have never worked in big corporate in india. I can only speak from hearsay, only in faang companies work culture is similar to u.s but in mid sized and small cap companies work culture is like going to a school/college and get micro managed plus compulsory work hours regardless of the work you do.
