Modi did exactly the same thing when BJP lost 2012 UP elections. He disappeared for few weeks, when the entire UP campaign was supposed to be dress rehearsal for his 2014 campaign.

Ideally? Like any hard-set rules to be followed to be ideal? 

He is weak and it is visible. An election defeat for a CM Is much worse than going to jail. Chesina penta ki nalugu rojulu jail lo esthe labho dibho sympathy peddayana ayyo papam annollu....its just an lection defeat for everyone but for KCR is a very emotional set back.
