as far as freebie goes, overwhelming percentage of people live off govt freebies. some of them directly, some of them indirectly. they just don't consider themselves as living off of them.

people should come out of that delusion they are hard workers and uniquely positioned to mock others who live off freebies, and demand better data and justification on schemes from their govt, than being offended that a section is being given free tickets to travel.

anyway democracy is messy, and no one has the complete picture.. not even the govt.

but the govt is better positioned to acquire it, and should be forced to share their knowledge with the citizens, and slowly improve governance across multiple factors.

the arrogance of calling stuff freebies should go. some of these 'freebies' are public goods. its like the society together has decided to provide this particular good at no cost, for whatever reason at that particular point in time.

The only thing left to do is to collect data to see if it has met the objectives it set out to, and take stock of the negative consequences of the scheme. weigh them both regularly, and make the necessary changes to the scheme.

this is good scheme but not ideal. It is a good scheme given where we are in india. Ideally the society will make it safe for women and build comfortable air conditioned mass transport cheaply like china does.

India lo antha scene ledhu - so this scheme is ok.

I'm saying govt must communicate upon the reasons for this scheme and assess if the objectives are achieved, given the extraordinary negative talk this has generated both in TG and KA.. As far as I know this scheme in other parts of India (for eg. in Delhi, TN) is introduced to improve women safety and labour participation in the economy.
