Raven_Rayes Posted December 24, 2023 Report Posted December 24, 2023 its like the story of the current world. what is shown as happening in a quiet little romanian town that bursts with xenophobic sentiment with the arrival of two srilankan workers for a local bakery, could've taken place anywhere.. France, UK, Canada, Australia etc. an awesome 20mins town hall meeting towards the end of the movie where people express their views on whether these foreign workers should be banned or not, is the best part of the movie. at one point a guy states that these jobs could be filled up by the locals, if only higher wages were offered by the owner who herself drives a mercedes, while her workers barely get by. But then there remains the question about why the owner driving a mercedes wasn't a problem until she brought foreigners to do the job. the movie shows us plainly how people react to changing cultural and economic realities. its a very dark film, because it offers no hope other than warn us to be prepared of a civilizational collapse. Raven_Rayes Posted December 24, 2023 Author Report Posted December 24, 2023 the most interesting aspect of the movie is how those who are considered 'foreigners' in the romanian town - hungarians, and the hero who is a Romani (who himself faces discrimination for being a Gypsy in Germany) are the ones that are most vocal agaisnt the new foreigners. hating on the new srilankan workers is at the same time an event that gives the diverse town a common cause to get behind, while also flaring the differences among them. what a movie. I've completely grown distant to such tribal concerns around identity. I think such instincts are primitive and deserve to be stomped out of human societies, and replaced with liberal attitudes as the way forward for a post-human future. those who don't want to join the liberal space can stay mad, and feel sorrrry for themselves. I think I've stopped caring. I used to have some sympathy for that view point. No more. I also believe a lot of things like r@pe, looting, killing should e criminalized only to the extent that the perpetrator is removed from the society (not jailed for a long time or executed) to which he/she caused the harm, unless its a serial offender, instead of making it a sensational thing that the entire country is forced to involve themselves in a way that cults behave. I also think people who can't pay their debt should be allowed to go free. I also think people who feel loyalty to their caste, ethnicity, region, religion, or whatever primitive crap that people feel loyal to, should not receive any support from the liberal state. Quote

I would recommend if you didn't watch this movie R.M.N. is about a dozen different ideologies clashing in a village. from xenophobia, to EU liberalism, to toxic masculinity everything. The movie is also very slow and hard to watch and bleak but beautiful, until it explodes in one town hall. and the director doesn't actually take a side.. and its very hard to interpret the ending of the movie too. So don't expect to understand what the director wanted to say with the movie.. According to me, he's saying the civilization is fcuked either way. but may be he sides with the xenophobes a bit, I don't know. search for Nocturnal Animal throws up a Jake Gylenhall Movie. Is that the one you are talking about? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4550098/ Quote
