Following the success of the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, the largest cricket amphitheatre in the world, Ahmedabad is now set to erect five more international-quality stadiums, including one Olympic-level football arena - according to a report by Desh Gujarat. The new development plan will be spread across the Sardar Vallabhbhai Sports Enclave, which currently houses the 130,000-capacity cricket ground. (Football News)

The crowning jewel among the new, upcoming stadiums will be the international standard football stadium, which may even rival the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for the Indian football team games. The report claims that the new football arena and the four other projects have already been greenlit by the Central and State Governments. As such, the process has moved to the second stage, with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority inviting tenders for the construction jobs.

I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just want to ask if anyone knows whether construction has started or if there have been any recent updates. With all the buzz around the FIFA U-17 events and ISL expansions, it’d be cool to know how this might tie into bringing more exposure to football in that region. Anyone local seen progress or heard more from officials?

I saw some comparisons being made with European stadiums, and it reminded me of how things are covered on https://www.lagradaonline.com/ — they focus a lot on stadium updates and team news, especially around Espanyol. If Ahmedabad gets more international matches, maybe we’ll start seeing similar detailed coverage here too. Would be cool if local clubs got more spotlight with a stadium like that in place.
