Most of the companies moved to 50% match. if some one is paying 50% upto 6% salary, then the company benefits are bad buddy. this is true atleast with the companies i interviewed so far. Splunk is the only one which has worst 401k. ee companies isthunnayo cheppu bro. I did not know this. Fang vallu kuda eppudu cheppaledu. Quote

DallasNagesh Posted January 5, 2024 Report Posted January 5, 2024 What if I am getting company match for Roth contribution? In this scenario, is it better to go with traditional or Roth 401k? Quote
Galactus Posted January 5, 2024 Report Posted January 5, 2024 depends on individuals but if you have GC or plan to stay here max out 401k , its 23k for 2024 , Employer match will be bonus, usually they give 50% of 5% or 6%, that means 2.5 or 3% usually and it will be matched on your base salary, so if your base is 150k, employer match will be 4.5k (assuming 50% of 6% of base) so your total 401k contribution will be 27.5k. Roth IRA has 7k limits , it also has income limits whether you are filing individually or as married so check those and see if you are eligible HSA is another good way to save and compound money but you can only spend it for medical expenses so think carefully There are also some options like mega backdoor roth etc, this can help you move more money into your Roth account If you have high base salary (> 180k) its best to maximize 401k contributions Idanta naku telvadu ante, atleast do take the free employer match so contribute 5% or 6%. Otherwise you are leaving the free money out. 401k compounds amazing once you build up a nice amount, have seen people having > 500k accounts, every year it grows some 10-15%, imagine sitting and earning 50-75k every year with out doing anything. This is why people recommend you to invest or max out 401k. 1 Quote
