kevinUsa Posted January 18, 2024 Report Posted January 18, 2024 I came to this country 22 years ago as a student. I studied hard and worked hard to get a decent job and achieve financial stability. My son was born here and is a US citizen and is very much interested in studying computer science. He is still in high school but he feels that immigrants especially from India and China would be a strong competition for him when he would be out in the market looking for a job. And that doesn’t seem fair to him - and this is despite him being the son of an immigrant. He doesn’t feel it was right for me to take up someone else’s job given that I always had a choice to go back to my country and get a job there. He says that the person whose home was USA never had that choice. So it was unfair and wrong on my part to take up someone else’s job. If jobs were in surplus then people would have been easily getting jobs. But, he doesn’t see that around him given all the news about layoffs he keeps reading all the time. He said that in India people in Maharashtra don’t appreciate people from Bihar coming and taking up jobs so how come Indians think it is fair for them to come here and take up jobs of US citizens. He doesn’t feel very proud of being the son of an immigrant and that makes me sad. 1 Quote

He doesn’t feel very proud of being the son of an immigrant and that makes me sad. That's the reality. This is an old debate about globalization vs national interests. But the way central banking overlords and their puppet governments organized the thinking patterns is profit over national interests. Which why outsourcing was put in the very first place. US in general is an already technologically advanced country even before Indians or Chinese stepped in and claim they have contributed to development of US. Most of the technological advancements in US were made during post war and cold war years. The percentage contribution if any made by patents and innovation will never be match the number of H1Bs working in US. That % if you look at since 80s till date will be abysmal at best. So why are H1Bs here? Simple answer Profits for American Corps by hiring outsiders whom they don't train vs investing in Young Americans. Also, H1Bs can be reined in by not having to pay extra, because the visa holders options are limited. US does this stuff with all countries around the world. They want their corps to have access to resources and market in other countries while giving access to labour market in US to other citizens. Since they cannot give the same level of access to India due to sheer size of population, hence the H1Bs route. The central banks ensure this dynamic stays in place to ensure constant access to cheap labour by binding their own currencies to US $, not that their currencies are inherently weak. This is not very different from allowing Mexicans to work hard labour jobs for cheaper price. Visa workers contribute to social security and taxes, so governments are happy too. Most of the time if they return to their home countries then they don't even have access to their social security. Inflation forces them to buy mortgages, and then pay more property taxes so money stays in US as well. So that kid feels like just an average American who wants his interest and his fellow country mens's interest first. But he is yet to learn the reality, whether he does is a different story. Quote

That won't have any bearing on his thought process. Do kids in India appreciate Bangladeshis or Pakistanis coming and settling in India ? Heck, sub nationalism and regionalism is strong in India where people of different states fight for same opportunities. Quote
