The Modi government has been in power for almost a decade, and its track record is far from impressive. The government has been plagued by a series of controversies, including demonetization, GST implementation, CAA-NRC, Rafale scam, farm laws, Covid-19 mismanagement, atrocities on minorities, lynching of Muslims, corruption with Adani, electoral bonds, China intrusion, mis-handling of Manipur, ignoring important issues, controlling media and judiciary, not focussing on unemployment, inflation and high trade deficit.

 

 Demonetization

 

In November 2016, the Modi government announced the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. The move was supposedly aimed at curbing black money and corruption, but it ended up causing widespread chaos and economic hardship. Millions of people were left stranded without cash, and many small businesses were forced to shut down. The demonetization exercise is estimated to have cost the Indian economy around 1.5% of its GDP and 100+ deaths.

 

 

Faulty GST implementation

 

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in July 2017, but its implementation was riddled with flaws. The GST system was complex and confusing, and it led to a significant increase in compliance costs for businesses. This hit small businesses particularly hard, and many of them were forced to close down and some comitted suicide.

 

CAA-NRC controversy

 

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have been met with widespread protests, especially from the Muslim community. The CAA is seen as discriminatory against Muslims, and the NRC is seen as a threat to the citizenship of millions of Indian Muslims. That ignited fear and unrest in the country.

 

Rafale corruption

 

Mr Modi was indulged in corruption in the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France. The BJP government has been accused of paying an inflated price for the jets and of favoring a Anil Ambani's Reliance company in the deal. Former French President Hollande on record said that it was Government of India that proposed Anil Ambani's Reliance name instead Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd

 

 

Farm Laws

 

The Modi government's farm laws were met with widespread protests from farmers. The laws were seen as being in favor of corporate interests and as harmful to farmers. The protests eventually led to the repeal of the laws. But, after the death of 750 farmers.

 

Mis-management of Covid-19

 

Despite the warning given by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, the Modi government did nothing about Covid in the start. They ridiculed Rahul Gandhi, said he is spreading fear in the public. Resultantly The government was slow to respond to the pandemic, was busy in Kumbh Mela and West Bengal elections. Also, its testing and vaccination programs were inadequate. The government has also been accused of hiding data related to the pandemic. WHO said approximately 47 lakhs died but BJP government said only 4 lakh died.

 

Atrocities on minorities

 

There has been a sharp increase in atrocities on minorities under the Modi government. Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs have been targeted by Hindutva extremists. BJP never really stopped it on the contrary it has been protecting the criminals of VHP and Bajrang Dal etc who are doing it.

 

Lynching of Muslims

 

There has been a spate of lynchings of Muslims in recent years. These lynchings have been carried out by Hindutva extremists, and the government has been accused of not doing enough to stop them. The BJP government is still promoting it and shielding the criminals.

 

Corruption with Adani

 

Modi is directly involved in the corrupt practices with Adani The Modi government has been explicitly involved in favoring the Adani Group in various contracts. The government has also been turning a blind eye to the Adani Group's environmental violations and stock prices manipulation.

 

Electoral bonds

 

A legal corruption envisioned by Modi government. Electoral bonds are a type of donation that can be made to political parties anonymously. Electoral bonds is a legal corruption that makes political funding system opaque and for making it easier for corporations to influence elections and policies.

 

China intrusion

 

Cowardice of Modi. He gave clean chit to China by saying " Naa koi aaya aur naa hee kisi ne kabza kiya hai " Treacherous act by the Modi government.

 

 

Mis-handling of Manipur

 

The Modi government has been mis-handling Manipur since past five months. The problem started on 3rd May 2023 that time PM Modi and HM Amit Shah were busy in Karnataka for election rallies. For many months PM didn't utter a word, he was forced to few lines when a video went viral where Kuki females were paraded naked and raped. Despite that Modi didn't remove CM Biren Singh. He has not even visit Manipur till now.

 

Ignoring important issues

 

The Modi government has been ignoring important issues such as unemployment, inflation, and high trade deficit. The government has been more focused on electioneering and on promoting its Hindutva agenda. Also, the Modi government has stopped publishing the data such as unemployment and suicide.

 

Controlling media and judiciary

 

The Modi government has been controlling the media and the judiciary. The government has been putting pressure on journalists and judges to toe the line. This is killing a democratic nation.

 

Suppressing voices of dissent

 

The Modi government is not only suppressing the voices of dissent and protests like farmers protest but also directing social media companies to suspend the accounts of thousands of people who critique the Modi government.

The Modi government has recently come under fire for issuing an executive order to X, a popular social media platform, to suspend the accounts of thousands of people who have been critical of the government.

The people of India deserve better, we have a chance 2024 to change our India for better.
