There is more to why it is done than what was told to public. One of the major reasons is to get rid of fake money and fight Financial terrorismmm that neighboring countries are doing to us.

Of course the implementation was not good. Hope they learnt from it.

 ---- IT became a big opportunity for ppl in right places converting black money.

But a lot of good came out of it too. Digitalization. Every vendor, corner people are using digital money.

 ---- Now this gave opportunity for Hackers to find new ways to cheat people. 

Its a cycle. What one sees as a problem, others see as opportunity.
