Because people are different and come from different backgrounds and respond differently to opposing views, conflict, etc. They have their own agenda. There is no point thinking, why they behave that way as you have no control over them.

Options you have are

• Retaliate with same language
• Complain to mods
• Ignore their messages

Its not OK. If the person uses abusive language, you should go to Mods. But its difficult to define abusive language. 

Most people wont find wrong with words like - Sanghi, Bhakt, or Bewede.  But some might. Then there are obvious words which are abusive which should not be tolerated.
