2 rupees rice was born more out of a necessity due to persistent drought conditions over the years..  as a kid I still remember, people in the village (oorlo telisina vallu) coming home and asking for rice, ganji pettukodaniki.. ration shop lo rice vachaaka malli bagane undedi.. this is during the time of 5rs per kg rice scheme.. 

my grand father used to say that rice was not widely available in all areas of AP in those days.. Ntr’s 2rs scheme gave food to lot of ppl, for whom rice was not affordable and available in those days.. hundreds of ppl used to wait at the ration shops to get rice every month.. this made him close to ppl and brought him lot of fame.. 

now we live a life of surplus.. money unte we can buy anything.. in those days, most ppl don’t have money and even ppl with money couldn’t buy everything they want..

Fun fact.. ppl in remote areas didn’t have rice available (TG, agency region in Coastal, etc).. with Ntr’s scheme, govt had to transport rice to every corner of the state for distribution through ration shops.. ppl used to eat other grains instead of rice during those days.. TG or Seema lo raagulu, jonnalu thinevallu.. Rice was a premium grain available only in the delta region.. 

tarvata water availability due to irrigation projects increased and we are producing surplus rice now.. Last 10 years lo TG lo paddy production is amazing given that it was very low for decades.. kcr ki credit ivvaali..

white rice is actually good for health especially in AP for the heat.. raagi or wheat thinte vedi chestundi 

we overly polish the rice removing all the good nutrients to get that white and better appearance.. try hand pound rice or even brown rice and if you get used to it, you can’t eat sona masoori and basmati rice..

Let's see...some of these bills need 2/3rd majority is what I heard, that's why BJP wanted 400.

This generation and city people have no idea of the conditions in villages those days. Getting food on plate was a huge struggle.
