human1234 Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Trump delays tariffs for all USMCA-compliant goods for both Mexico and Canada: Reuter Quote
human1234 Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Thursday exempted goods from both Canada and Mexico under a North American trade pact for a month from the 25% tariffs that he had imposed earlier this week, the latest twist in fast-shifting trade policy that has whipsawed financial markets and business leaders. The exemption, which will expire on April 2, covers both of the two largest U.S. trading partners. Trump had earlier only mentioned an extension for Mexico, but the amended tariffs order - initially issued on Tuesday - covers Canada as well. Quote

human1234 Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Trump said there would be no exemption for autos from tariffs against Canadian and Mexican imports next month. He said he told automakers their exemption would be a short-term deal. Trump on Wednesday exempted automakers from his punishing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico for one month as long as they comply with existing free trade rules. The shift came after a call with the CEOs of General Motors, Ford and the chair of Stellantis, the White House said Wednesday. The automakers had urged Trump to waive 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada on vehicles that comply with the 2020 U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement's rules of origin. The North American auto supply chain is highly integrated through the United States, Canada and Mexico, as parts cross the border in various stages of manufacturing that could expose car companies to multiple tariff Quote
