The first swimming final event of the day coming up -

 

The 400 meter Individual Medley - women's final event......Canada's teen sensation Summer McIntosh - has all eyes on her.

For the uninitiated - the 400 meter medley is contested in the following 4 disciplines in the exact order : BUTTERFLY, BACKSTROKE, BREASTSTROKE AND FREESTYLE. 100 m each of course.

Butterfly done - and the leader so far is....SUMMER MCINTOSH from Canada......

And now backstroke done - the leader is.....SUMMER MCINTOSH again.....

Breastroke on and this is where things get exciting.....

Breaststroke done and the leader is......SUMMER MCINTOSH again...and now comes the freestyle......holy ....Summer is sooooo far ahead.....

What an extraordinary performance by Summer McIntosh from Canada.....PURE DOMINATION. First Olympic gold medal for the teenager. 2nd and 3rd are American girls.

Popovici from Romania has all eyes on him.

Wow.....what a performance of Popovici - he absolutely kicked into gear in the last 50 meters or so and absolutely rocket boosted to Gold. Sensational swim.
