1. Rumors were high that he was obsessed with marrying Sridevi, but she didn't reciprocate/set her sights to Bollywood by then.

2. The reasons he's still acting despite multiple health issues is supposedly their financial situation. He made a couple of poor career choices from Baba and that carried on with both his daughters losing a lot of money in their directorial/production ventures - he is apparently still repaying those debts. He also quickly got Aishwarya married to Dhanush, because she was either planning to elope with someone he didn't approve of, or one family owed the other money - but he regretted it after seeing how Dhanush behaved.

3. He was in love with latha and mgr roughed him up.

4. He married another latha who is a tambram and she is supposed to have shady dealings with her school and what not. The rumor is that is forcing Rajni to act till date. This latha lady he married has connections to old Rich tam families. She is relative of ygp school group and the school had sa allegations recently and the management did nothing.

5. He had a very big alocohol addiction. Not sure about recent days. There are stories that he used to finish up a bottle of scotch per day, religiously.

6. I don't know how much truth there is to this but there is a rumour that has been floating for years, if not decades that he was once beaten up by goons sent by MGR at his personal residence, apparently the reason was because Rajinikanth was getting a little too comfortable with one of his female co stars while working on a movie together which pissed off MGR so much as he had a thing for her if I'm not wrong,thereby leading to this incident.

7. Rajini had an affair with Amala Akkineni and he wanted to leave his wife. Fans protested ,k Balachander ,Rajinis guru intervened and solved the issue. Rajini came back to his wife

8. Rajni is from Bangalore originally. He tried his luck in Kannada movies. He conveniently blamed Kannada film makers to have him deprived of a career in Kannada owing to his dark skin. The truth though is that he was too unprofessional back in the days. Because of this he was replaced in several of the earlier movies.
