It appears to operate as a churn-and-burn approach, where employees give their all in the initial years to prove themselves, but later when they become bit relaxed, dump them. It seems the intent is to prevent complacency by maintaining a constant influx of fresh talent, extracting maximum effort from them, and then letting them go when they're burned out. Quote

Backfill is in loose term here - They continued to hire even in 2024. Meta never had compulsory 5% off every year unlike Microsoft or Amazon.
