100% right take take allopurinol for life once you’re set with pain. I tried all diets, no alcohol for 2 years nothing worked for me. I had that feeling why should i take a medicine for lifelong i’ll just change my habits. In process of losing weight i got attacks again, i gave up and started meditation and no attacks from 1 year. Also allopurinol will dissolve existing crystals in joints which cannot be done by diet change. If you want to try diet. Do a strict diet for 3 months and get tested again for uric acid and if value is not normal don’t waste your time. More the time you waste more crystals might form in joints. Sometimes you have to agree that side affects caused by meditation is less harmful than what the decease/condition will cost you in the long term without meditation. Don’t worry just bear the pain for few days and start allopurinol. I also tried homeopathy, cherry extract tablets, what not, nothing worked except allopurinol

STOP EATING SUGAR!!

Sugar is the single biggest reason for the cause of Gout, Arthritis, Asthama, Cancer etc! Stop Sugar and you can go back to eating purine based foods (moderately though). I had issues with gout and it completely went away after I stopped sugar. There is a book called Drop Acid, which explains this in detail.
Sugar is the biggest cause of inflammation and is the single biggest catalyst for Gout, Arthritis, Asthama, Cance, Cholestrol and what not. DM me if you have any specific questions related to Gout!

I will explain it clearly forget whatever everyone said, I am a doctor so follow this explanation carefully

Gout is due to excess of uric acid when sufficient PH is met is deposited as uric acid crystals in the joints

Uric acid is produced from purine metabolism only 1/3rd of the purines in the body is from dietary source approximately 400mg/24 hours and 2/3rd is derived from body own metabolism mostly during recycling of RNA and DNA in our body which is approximately 800mg/24hours, so now you can understand by this diet is not the major factor ,the major factor is your body producing uric acid , some may produce more uric acid due to mutations which are not fully understood but one such condition is inherited condition called lesch nyhan syndrome

Now coming to excretion of uric acid 2/3rd of it is excreted in urine that is 800mg/ day and 1/3rd through stools appx 400mg/day

Some of the mutations can also cause increased reabsorbtion of uric acid back into the body through kidneys

So for increase in uric acid levels the problem can be any where in above mentioned processes

In over 90% of cases the cause of increased uric acid in the body is reduced uric acid excretion by kidneys which is genetically determined

So from all this you can understand the only thing in your hand is diet control but this is not a major contributing factor of the problem

So reduce the intake of purine rich foods such as sea foods, red meat and fructose rich foods such as processed bakery items and soft drinks should be limited and alcohol especially beer should be avoided and reduction of weight is also suggested by regular exercise and increase the intake of vitamin c rich foods such as citrus fruits

Disclaimer don't except any drastic change in improvement after dietary changes as uric acid is already deposited in your joints

Now coming to the most important part the pharmacological treatment

During gout episode we usually give colchicine 0.5mg twice or thrice daily ,oral NSAIDS like indomethacin can also be given but we prefer colchicine here

The drug you are taking is allopurinol which increases the excretion of uric acid in the urine should not be given during the period of the gout flare but after the episode subsides to prevent the recurrence so should not be given during initial episode , we start with initial dose of 100mg daily

Allopurinol initially causes dissolution of uric acid crystals already deposited so it temporarily causes increase of uric acid levels in the body so initially after start of treatment of allopurinol you get more flareups of gout but gradually the uric acid levels will stabilise and episodes will reduce so stay strong and also the initial dose in your case is 300mg which is high in my view so your fluctuations of uric acid is more than expected so more gout flare, so be patient it will work

The dose of allopurinol can be increased by 100mg every 4 weeks until the uric acid levels in the body stabilises

After all this if there is no sufficient improvement then there is febuxostat which can replace allopurinol

Don't stress too much on dietary changes , but try as much possible, highly restrictive diet not necessary

Hope this helps, I know it's difficult now but stay strong the condition will improve but remember this is long term battle @pichhipullayya how is the explanation, satisfied 😂

i am a vegetarian non drinker and i have gout. I am very active with gym everyday with hiking and tennis on top of it. I am now taking allopurinol 50 mg everyday and they kept my uric acid in check.

I used to drink soda(coke) which is high in high fructose corn syrup. I have heard regular sugar sodas are ok in moderation. But this is the main cause for my gout flare ups.

@vasu21 @amazon Sugar is the biggest cause for gout. There is book called Drop Acid written by a doctor who worked on Uric Acid side affects and causes. Gout is just one side effect of high Uric acid levels. It can also cause Fatty liver disease and kidney issues etc in long term.

Here is a brief summary of Drop Acid book from ChatGPT

Overview & Context

Drop Acid focuses on uric acid—a common but often overlooked substance in our bodies—and reveals its broader role in modern health concerns like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver disease, neurological conditions, and heart disease Barnes & NoblePaminyBrieflane.

Structure & Core Content

Part I: Understanding Uric Acid

  • Highlights the hidden health risks of elevated uric acid—traditionally linked only to gout and kidney stones—but now increasingly associated with chronic illnesses BrieflanePaminy.

  • Connects diet—particularly fructose and purine-rich foods—to elevated uric acid, tracing how modern eating habits overwhelm our metabolic systems BrieflanePaminy.

Part II: The LUV Plan ("Lower Uric Values")

  • Introduces the LUV diet, a structured 21-day plan with 35 recipes, quizzes, and phased dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce uric acid Barnes & Noblethebashfulbookworm.comStaying AlivePaminy.

  • Includes practical guidance:

    • Dietary adjustments (cutting fructose, purines)

    • Natural aids like tart cherries, vitamin C, quercetin, coffee

    • Lifestyle tactics: sleep, exercise, hydration, time-restricted eating, and easy uric acid testing at home thebashfulbookworm.comStaying AliveBarnes & Noble.

  • The book offers a roadmap—week-by-week—not only to drop uric acid but to enhance metabolic and brain health
