Me relocated to India in 2018 after 12yrs stay in UK..

Monthly expenses:

Rent:  35k + 3k maintenence

Maid: 2k

Groceries:  15k

OTT + Mobile Monthly :   2k

School Fees Monthly average:  10k * 2 = 20k (2 kids)

Tutions:  10k for 2 kids

2 Bike Petrol:   1000 Rs

Misc Shopping or buying house hold goods :  10 - 20k

We dont eat outside food and stopped going to theatres to watch movies ..

Total on an average :  1Lakh+  per month for family of 4

Rent i pay will be covered by the rental income from my 2 owned flats..

So 1lakh - 35k = 65k per month expenses

Actually its not as expensive as few people project about living expenses in india.

which city?

It totally depends on city - There is no way maid comes for 2k in any tier 1 or tier 2 city. Trust me - my parents live in Tier 3 city and we pay 4k for maid.

Also anna, this list screams being frugal. 25~30% more if you want to live comfortably.

If you are settling in India, I would suggest to keep most of the investments in US if you are a citizen.  Get a house or apartment on loan and pay it off only after doing the right calculations.

Rupee value keeps going down while the worlds biggest companies are based in US. Once Robotics is in full swing, they don't need to offshore manufacturing that much.

We are planning to move as well. Have some real estate in India bt keeping stocks invested in US.

This - I would keep the 401k's and Roth IRA's compounding and do its magic. US is the safehaven any day.

If someone wants to return to India in 2025/ 2026 ee below parameters lo entha unte we can lead a decent life without 9-5

FD:

Bank Balance:

SIPs balance:

Real Estate:

Planning to return to India by 2027 End.

Main reason to go back is Stress at Work and no motivation to learn new things and other main reason Parents getting old.

I expect to have below numbers before moving

Real Estate: 3BHK near Gopanpally(25 Lakhs Loan to be cleared)(currently earning me 40K rent).

RSU's/Stocks/ETF's/Crypto's: by 2027 expecting to be around $270-$300K(Currently $70k).

401K: by 2027 expecting to be around $70K(Currently $25K)

Cash: $50-$80K (Currently $8K)

Plan is to Keep 401K and diversify around 50% value of RSU's/Stocks/ETF's/Crypto's  and invested in US Markets (Mostly this if for my kid future planning) and remaining 50% for our savings in India.

After Moving back, hopefully I get a job or continue in my current job from Offshore, for may be couple of years and grow the Corpus and gradually by 45(I am 39 now) then plan to do coast fire by switching to a job with smaller role/responsibilities for smaller salary (equal to my monthly expenses) and by not touching the savings.

Expecting Expenses in India to be around 1.3 to 1.5 lakhs(includes School fees, Medical Expenses, Groceries and Home Maintenance)
