There is a distinction between a fact and a belief. Fact is something that's unequivocally proved, based on objective evidence. In case of Ramayanam and Mahabharatam, there is no objective archogeological evidence available yet. 

In case of Asoka, evidence is not objective and conclusive and a lot of gaps exist, which is why I don't accept it as a fact. If you think Asoka is real, then I call it a mere belief.
