Merger of "princely states" after breaking down multiple times. From civilizational perspective India extended all the way till Iran in the West to  Cambodia and even further down to Indonesia. Cultural influence extends all the way to Japan. 

Annexation is not a bad idea to begin with. Annexing most compatible Nepal, Bhutan. Pakistan and Bangladesh are going to be near bankrupt sooner or later. I wouldn't rule out merging them as well but the Islamic population needs to be dealt with as well.

The tantric practitioners infact use menstrual blood in rituals. What's more Kamakya Devi worship is renowned for this. The goddess is worshipped for her fertility. The escoteric perspective is that Women during mensuration are more susceptible to non physical forces. These practices are passed down across generations and people are primed that way. 

This is also NOT unique to Hindusim. It's found in Islamic and Christian and Judaism traditions as well. Most of the pre Christian Europe is rooted in Pagan traditions. Their origins were esoteric as well.
