I always say the opposite people here saying Dravidian is only tamil when I say telugu is also Dravidian like tamil. Anyway that's irrelevant to the discussion Telugu originated from Proto-Dravidian, a proto-language that is considered the ancestor of all Dravidian languages. While it shares some similarities with other Dravidian languages like Tamil and Kannada, it is not derived from them, but rather both languages share a common ancestor, Proto-Dravidian. When kamal spoke about kannada origin, i read some articles about this and learned some info. Earlier i always thought that it originated from sanskrit being the similarity of words in hindi and telugu Quote

Earlier i always thought that it originated from sanskrit being the similarity of words in hindi and telugu similarity in words in telugu and hindi is due to loan words from sanskrit. Spoken telugu has very less sanskrit ,infact most of the sanskritisation happened after independence and beginning printing press because of formal telugu used in printing press is similar to brahmin dialect of telugu which uses a lot of Sanskrit words. These words entered spoken telugu slowly and increased sanskrit words in everyday telugu. If you see telugus who migrated to tamil nadu or karnataka during vijayanagara time ,they don't use many sanskrit words because they speak telugu from that time of 400 years before. Formal tamil has a lot of Sanskrit words too but they went through Dravidian movement and removed sanskrit words. 1 Quote
