Less emissions is "make believe stuff". Don't fall for it. Butanol being a lower carbon density "alcohol", yields less mileage, (even torque and bhp) meaning you will fill more times at the pump. Alcohols burn at higher temperatures (within the diesel engines), which favours the formation of more Nitrogen Oxides (NO, NO2), which are more poisonous than the CO2(the vilified gas for climate change).
