1980 - 1K great income.

2000 - 1K peanuts, 10K is comfortable income.

2020 - 10k is peanuts, 1L is comfortable income

2040 - 1L is peanuts, 10L is comfortable income

Look at the progression, every 20 years , income ni 10x cheyyali...history repeats

by the time you will retire you will have a own house savings everything, so 10L per month is too overrated. if so living in the US after retirement will also be challenging, $2500 SS saripoduga

Do you mean old age pension in USA? Will it be that much?

Should you have a GC for that?

J-1, H-1B, TN and O-1 status individuals are all eligible to apply for a Social Security Number (SSN).

Yes, a non-U.S. citizen can get Social Security benefits if they are a lawfully present immigrant who has worked in the U.S. and paid Social Security taxes, or if they meet certain specific eligibility criteria for Social Security Income (SSI) benefits

You are logically correct baa... I always find holes in other people's logic. Initially I thought its just a random number you mentioned out of general frustration.

But your conclusion has mathematical & historical foundation...

correct ye anipisthundhi...choodaaali....

kaani oka chinna hack vundhi ikkada, you are not expected to earn in 2040, so if you can set up proper own house for yourself and then rental income which will be automatically inflation adjusted will solve the main problem the TS raised.

You can get it if you are present in the US, must be a US citizen or have a reciprocity agreement for ur country if you want to get SS benefits living abroad. India does not have one with the US. So, Indian citizens living abroad cannot claim such benefits. Canada, UK and most EU nations have those reciprocal agreements.

bro its a life changing decision to retire early or retire abroad. Need lot of planning, perseverance and determination to follow the plan and execute it.

And inflation is real and plays a big role.

3K may be good for today but may not be in one year so evaranna chepthe dont take it at the face value about retirement and its also look different from person to person.

3 million cash , kids taken care and paid off home in India is my retirement plan . don't need anything else. 2 bhk with ac in both bed rooms will do for me , don't fancy anything else

Yeah owning a house helps to an extent but living comfortable life would need good money some where in that ball park...Can't compare living expenses in India to US...India is developing at faster pace and so does living expenses...anyway I respect your opinion and yeah 2500$ in US also not sufficient by 2040 ..

Good plan...go with some investments that yield supplemental income along the way baa instead of hoarding cash..cash is good too but not a major chunk.(of course you can invest at once after hoarding cash but it will be easier to do it as we go....yeah I guess our consumption will go down by the time we retire...
