It’s now Saudi vs Egypt as to who will lead the charge… Such pacts, will have adverse effects too. Israel may strike Kairana if they feel Pak can use their nukes against them.. But this defense pact has nothing to do with India though… Quote

american_desi Posted September 18 Author Report Posted September 18 Saudi Arabia had been helping Pakistan for a while with soft loans . Not because they love Pakistan but because they want nuke technology incase their regional rival Iran ever acquired a nuclear weapon. Relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia goes back several decades. For a while Saudi Arabian Airforce had Pakistanis as pilots on their airforce. In the recent years they stopped that but Saudi Arabia spending money to train Pakistanis as F16 pilots in the past helped Pakistan immensely. In tne last 20 years or so Saudi Arabia had become more practical in their dealing with India and Pakistan. India is a much larger economy and a bigger trade partner compared to bankrupt Pakistan, so Saudi Arabia started being more even handed or even favoring India because of Pakistan's closeness to Turkey . Turkey under President Erdogan has grand plans to revive themselves as the leader of the Islamic world and this is something that Saudi Arabia hates. Since the end of WW2 Saudi Arabia had been the defacto leader of the Islamic World. The rivalry between Saudi and Turkey goes back to the days before WW2 when both of them supported opposing sides . (Turkey was supporter of Axis and Saudi Arabia was supporting Allies) Egypt for a while wanted to portray themselves as the leader among Muslim world being the largest Arab country by population but they don't have oil ( and hence money). Egypt for the past few decades plays the role of younger brother to Saudi Arabia by being the supplier of labor to the Kingdom. Quote
