In the case described, where Likhith Nalla is accused of text messaging someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl (who was actually a police officer) and offering money for sex, law enforcement’s actions are consistent with legal sting operations in the U.S.. Police are allowed to pose as minors online or through text to investigate suspected crimes such as solicitation of a minor, as long as they do not persuade or pressure a person into committing a crime they otherwise would not commit.

Based on publicly available details, there is no indication the officer coerced, threatened, or manipulated the defendant—rather, the defendant allegedly initiated and carried out actions that would have been criminal had a real minor been involved. This generally does not qualify as entrapment under U.S. law. Therefore, using a police officer to pose as an underage person in this scenario is legal, so long as entrapment did not occur

Ee moral policing is like some movie ..where you expect a crime to happen based on socio-economic factors and pre detain the person. If this logic is applied free will is not there for humanity and our destiny dictated by algorithms which predicted our thoughts and hamper us.

Did they caught him in sec act ? NO!! Who knows if he commits the sex act ? May be he thought if both are adults having this fetish and having sex by dressing as kids..that kind of fetish exits in real...may be he chickens out after seeing the girl...may be he chickens out after seeing her undressing...

Lot of unknowns now...no crime happened but thinking the crime will happen and detaining him ?? It's entrapment and I am fully against it.

there is a crime happened. him talking to minor like that itself a crime

Fully support the arrest. In any case - the accused has the right to defend himself in the court through lawyers.

He is innocent till proven guilty.

But based on the facts of the case - he "knowingly" held conversations with what he thought was a 15 year old girl.

It is faulty logic to wait "for the crime to happen" before you initiate an arrest. What? That's just so far off not only basic logic but legal provisions.

There are several arrests made during the planning stage itself - terrorists planning to blow up buildings, wife or husband planning to hire hitmen to kill their spouse for insurance money etc.,

It is completely logical to stop the crime from happening. In other words- these are the sort of crimes -if they are not stopped at the planning stage - the accused would make sure their criminal act reaches its logical end - which may result in sexual abuse, killing etc., whatever is the intended crime.
