EyBisa Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 Data centers are essentially storage facilities for digital information, similar to how godowns store physical goods. They house and manage vast amounts of data, supported by specialized infrastructure such as temperature control and security systems. This makes it easier for businesses to store, access and process information efficiently. Regarding employment, large-scale investments in data centers do not necessarily translate into proportional job creation. For instance, the Visakhapatnam Adani-Google data center involves an investment of Rs 87,000 crore, yet is expected to generate only around 200 direct jobs. While the facility will handle massive volumes of data, the number of personnel required to operate it remains limited compared to the scale of investment. Well, its not any negative propaganda by the opposition. Eenadu, the pro TDP media house itself has written about this. Industry experts note that while media coverage and publicity touches the sky, expectations regarding employment hit the ground when the reality is understood. Data centers primarily focus on infrastructure and technology, with operational staffing requirements being relatively abysmal compared to the investment value. Actually, the original agreement during the erstwhile YSRCP government with the Adani Group was to generate 24,000 jobs by setting up three major facilities. At that time, permission was granted for the data center along with additional planned facilities aimed at creating better employment opportunities, including an IT Business Park, a Skill University and a Recreation Center. The commitment in the agreement was also to generate 24,900 direct employment. However, now all three of these planned facilities have been replaced solely by the AI Data Center of Google, which is expected to generate only 200 jobs. While the Rs 87,000 crore investment represents the value of the data center’s machinery and infrastructure, this investment will not directly benefit the government or translate into significant employment for local workers.
