Both are good. Taekwondo is more use of kicking and karate is hand oriented.

which one better for kids?

If it's just for energy expenditure it doesn't matter. If you want your kids to be ready to fight someone in real life, then boxing, kick boxing and wrestling are way better.

definitely jiu jitsu..looks like this what you are looking for but again it has it's limitations mostly striking vundadhu..so mixed martial better i think like jiu jitsu wrestling and kick boxing or muay thai which uses multiple styles and integrate them

Boxing is time tested, and one will master the art of punching as it's very focused. Very practical in real life, say when some one tries to bully you or hit you or mug you. Terrific hand eye coordination, Aerobic conditioning, fills the young guns with confidence and testosterone boost assuming your kid is a boy.

Ju jitsu has more ground game than wrestling. Wrestling is slightly superior as it involves raw dominance.  Wrestling is a muscle builder and you will see your boy developing muscular torso unlike lean bodies that boxers have. It's excellent for body's cardio vascular conditioning, but boxing tops wrestling if it's one on one.

I'd recommend either if it's for basic real life purposes.
