Google.com once went down because someone forgot to renew the domain ownership and someone else bought it. They were able to get it back in time. Sometimes they forget to renew certificates and that will cause websites and apps to go down. In this case it was DNS issue on a database service that aws provides and that database is a nosql and fast response database which is used by many aws services and that caused ripple effect outages.
