Amazon Layoffs Exposed the Harsh Truth About Corporate IT Jobs

Everyone thinks IT jobs are wonderful — great pay, cool offices, and endless facilities.

But what people *don’t* see is the **constant struggle and uncertainty** that comes with them.

In IT, you need to **keep upskilling all the time** just to survive. Even if you’re great at what you do, you’re never safe from layoffs. The recent Amazon layoffs once again proved this harsh reality.

Throughout an IT career, you’ll face these stressful phases repeatedly — market shifts, reorganizations, and job insecurity.

The truth is, **the retirement age in IT isn’t 60 or even 50**. For many, it’s closer to **35–40**, depending on the domain you work in.

Once you cross 12–15 years of experience, switching jobs becomes rare and extremely tough. And even if you try to switch, you’ll often be **grounded by the unrealistic expectations of interviewers** — who expect you to know everything from legacy systems to the latest frameworks.

That means your career often depends entirely on your current employer’s decisions — not your talent or effort.

All of this made me pause and think deeply…

*Do we still want to rely on IT as a lifelong career?*

Maybe it’s time we start building **something of our own** — a side project, a product, a skill that gives us independence beyond corporate uncertainty.
Because in today’s world, *true job security comes from adaptability, not employment.*

These are my thoughts after seeing what’s happening at Amazon — and honestly, across the tech world.
