The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday demanded stern action against the management of a private engineering college on the outskirts of Chittoor, after a third-year student, Nandini, allegedly jumped from the third floor of the college building following “harassment by the authorities” over payment of fees.

CPI(M) district secretary Vada Gangaraju blamed the college management for the incident and urged the government to order a thorough probe. He said that the victim’s act reflected the growing pressure and mental harassment faced by students in private colleges.

“Even those admitted under government quota are being forced to pay thousands of rupees,” Gangaraju alleged, accusing private institutions of ignoring government regulations with impunity. He demanded that the government ensure justice for Nandini and make the college bear her medical expenses and educational costs until her complete recovery.

Meanwhile, the incident happened on the campus on Friday night. The college management said that the girl was immediately rushed to the District hospital.
