Maharashtra has become the first Indian state to join hands with Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Communications for launching satellite-based internet services.

The state government signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink to bring high-speed connectivity to government offices, public institutions and rural areas in remote districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv and Washim.

The signing ceremony took place in Mumbai, attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and IT Minister Ashish Shelar.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said the collaboration supports the state’s Digital Maharashtra mission and aligns with programs for electric vehicles, coastal development and disaster resilience.

He expressed pride that Maharashtra will now lead India in satellite-enabled digital infrastructure, helping realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India goals at the grassroots level.

This announcement follows Maharashtra’s new vision document for Viksit Maharashtra 2047, aiming to transform the state into a $5 trillion economy through inclusive, sustainable and technology-driven growth.
