Fewer Republicans and independents approve of President Trump's management of the federal government than earlier in his term, according to an AP-NORC poll of 1,143 adults published Wednesday.

Why it matters: Trump and Republicans have blamed Democrats for the six-week long government shutdown. While a Senate-approved agreement to end the shutdown is poised for a House vote, U.S. adults are assigning fault to the GOP as well.

 

 

• Republican approval of Trump has generally been stable.

The big picture: An overall dip in approval is driven largely by declines among Republicans and independents.

• Democrats remain as opposed as ever to Trump's management of government, with 5% approving as of November, down from 9% in March.

By the numbers: As of November, 68% of Republicans said they approve of how Trump is managing the federal government.

• That figure was 81% in March.
• Among independents, approval dropped from 38% to 25%.

Yes, but: Despite dips in approval of how Trump is managing the government, his overall approval rating has remained steady.

• 36% of U.S. adults approve of his overall handling of the presidency, only down one percentage point from October.
