EyBisa Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 After iBomma operator Imandi Ravi was caught by the police, his entire background came out. Ravi was born and brought up in Visakhapatnam and studied only up to his degree. With the help of his brother-in-law, he went abroad and from there, his mindset completely changed. Many details about Ravi were revealed by his father, Appa Rao, who still lives in Visakhapatnam. He said he always believed his son was working a normal job abroad and had no idea he was running piracy websites. A retired BSNL employee living on his pension, Appa Rao said that Ravi returned home two years ago but never gave him even a single rupee. Living in a small house and leading a simple life, the father said he was shocked to learn everything only after the police arrested his son. He shared, “My son said he liked a girl, so we arranged the marriage. Her family fixed the date suddenly and the wedding happened. At that time, I had no money in hand. I only now came to know that he had ₹3 crore in his account. I never asked him, and he never told me. I live my own life, and he lived his own. I don’t need his money. My pension is enough.” Calling his son’s behavior unacceptable, the father said, “His ego went to his head. What he did was wrong, and challenging the government and police was an even bigger mistake.” Police not only arrested Ravi but also made him personally block the iBomma and Bapam piracy websites. He is now in judicial remand. Meanwhile, a surprising set of people on social media have started supporting Ravi. They argue that movie ticket prices and theatre snack rates are becoming too high, and such piracy operators are a “check” on the system. Their comments have created further debate online. Quote
AndhraAbbai Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 Hiking the tkt price is the biggest crime, but they made this normal... Quote
Konebhar6 Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 Hero's remuneration is the problem. They are commanding 70-80% of the budget which is crazy. They put pressure on govts to increase the ticket prices. Solution is very simple. Instead of complaining, people stop watching these movies and wait for OTT. They should do this irrespective of whether the hero is their caste or not. Govt should utilize this guy's skills for greater use and not go to waste or rot. They should not have revealed his details. 1 Quote

The producers started releasing the movies in maximum theaters on first 3 days to get all investment back. So they started hiking prices too. The reason? Digital media disruption. Earlier movie success was measured in terms of number of theaters and 50 day run or 100 day run. Now hardly 1 week. So producers claim they are loosing money because of digital piracy Quote

Because of hero's remuneration (from 5-20 cr to 50-250 cr range in just 4-5 yrs) its become a bigger problem than what it is. Greed has taken over. TFI is taking advantage of people's weakness for Cinema. Quote

What about thosands of artists who give up everything they had to try their chance in films. Quote
EyBisa Posted November 17 Author Report Posted November 17 Public Support For iBomma's Ravi Raises Concerns It is known that iBomma operator Emandi Ravi has been arrested and is being interrogated. Hyderabad City Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar held a press meet along with film industry figures Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Dil Raju, Suresh Babu and others. They shared information, concerns and warnings with the public. What has shocked many is that Ravi is receiving strong online support. Images and comments on social media portray him as a hero. One popular image shows a policeman unable to beat him because he is “addicted to films on his piracy site.” Many comments are equally surprising. Some examples translated into English are as follows “How can the system expect us to come to theatres and watch with family? We burn our salaries buying expensive popcorn.” “Ravi is doing a great thing. He is helping poor people who cannot enter theatres with high prices.” “For the rich there is Aha and Netflix and Amazon Prime. For poor people like us there is iBomma and Movierulz.” “We pray to God that Ravi sir comes out soon.” “For the first time I am seeing society react so positively to a piracy website and its owner. It reminds me of a scene from Tagore.” “Ravi sir is the real hero who brought entertainment within the reach of common people. The actors who take crores of public money are zeroes in my view.” “There are no good days for good people. The person who helped the common man is arrested and the one who cheats gets positions.” “Robin Hood Ravi anna.” “Ravi anna made iBomma for poor people who cannot spend money on movies. We want him released soon.” “Producers give crores to heroes in white and black then force special shows on us. If you arrest them and also shut iBomma everyone will be happy.” “They make huge budget films that spoil common people especially Telugu youth. The film field is the most corrupt field. People must change. Cinema causes loss for many.” “Even after seeing these comments the film people will not understand. The Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan treated raising ticket prices as some kind of noble act.” “You cannot catch politicians who do big scams but you take away even the small things we enjoy.” Such comments show an alarming level of sympathy for someone involved in crime. Youth must understand that piracy sites compromise user data and such information is sold on the dark web contributing to serious cybercrimes. Police officials also warned about this at the press meet. Many complain about high theatre food prices yet no one is forced to buy anything. Some families say they choose piracy sites because children demand refreshments during intervals but this cannot justify illegal streaming. The arrest of iBomma’s Emandi Ravi is a lawful and necessary step supported by the film industry. The public outrage against it shows a troubling divide in society about whether piracy is a crime. This is a deeply worrying trend. Quote
