Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) officials. The total estimated investment for the campus is around ₹1,600 crore, and at least 8,000-10,000 jobs, especially AI-related ones, are likely to be generated by the company by 2029. If this happens, it will be listed as one of the top 10 multinational IT giants in the State along with Infosys and TCS, which have already connected with Visakhapatnam. While Infosys has already begun its operations, TCS is yet to do so. Speaking to The Hindu on Monday (December 1), an APIIC official said on condition of anonymity: “We have allotted 22.19 acres to Cognizant at ₹0.99 an acre. We had acquired the land from the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) in six different survey numbers (survey number 394 to 397). It is located near the VMRDA’s Haritha Housing Complex near Kapuluppada. We have also allotted space for the company’s temporary operations till their permanent campus is ready.” The 22.19 acres comprises a combination of various parcels of land. A parcel of 12.37 acres and another of 6.10 acres have been put together in a single lot, the official said. Till the first phase of the main campus is completed, Cognizant will operate from a rented plug-and-play office space of 800-1000 seats at Mahathi Bhavan, Hill No. 2, Rushikonda. The company has its Indian bases in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune, among other cities in the country. Andhra Pradesh Digital Technology Industry (APDTI) Network chairperson Sreedhar Kosaraju commented that Cognizant’s launch in Vizag will draw senior IT talent from across India. To faciliate this, the government, through its new IT policy, will offer the employee a yearly incentive of ₹1 lakh for three years. He added that investments of global companies and support of the government can together make Visakhapatnam a top spot for IT professional. Quote
