I did once. I explained that I need to report to work and the renewal in India takes many months where as in US, it is quick. They gave me trouble and let me go with a warning. This is discretionary.

Who gave you trouble airline or immigration ?

It has been 11 yrs. I may not be recollecting correctly. But boarding pass taggara flag ayyi, supervisor ni pilichi, taravata akkadi immigration ee kadhalu padinattu gurtu. Ikkada evvadu ivvaledu as far as I remember.

Yeah US is very clear you can travel and get stamped till expiry of passport 

but airlines valle issue chestharu that is the main issue

Visa ki no problem… if passport is expiring in less than 6 months, then it is a problem
