Texas AG to probe H-1B abuse by private firms

In a strong crackdown on alleged H-1B visa fraud, Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, has ordered investigations into suspected abuse of the H-1B program by businesses operating in the state.

The probe has begun with three North Texas companies that are believed to have engaged in fraudulent practices.

According to the Attorney General’s office, the companies under scrutiny are suspected of running illegal operations designed to exploit the H-1B visa system.

Investigators allege that these firms set up sham companies, complete with websites advertising products or services that do not actually exist, solely to fraudulently sponsor H-1B visas.

The office revealed that one of the companies being investigated had reportedly listed a single-family home as its official business address, while its website claimed a worksite located in an empty, unfinished building.

Despite having no real operations, such firms are alleged to have sponsored a large number of H-1B visas over the years.

Commenting on the investigation, Attorney General Paxton issued a strong warning, stating that anyone attempting to scam the H-1B visa program using “ghost offices” or similar tactics should be prepared to face the full force of the law.

He stressed that abuse and fraud within the visa system take away jobs and opportunities from Texans and vowed strict action against those involved.

Paxton further said his office would use every available legal tool to identify and hold accountable individuals and companies engaging in such schemes, reiterating that protecting American workers remains a top priority.

As part of the ongoing probe, the Attorney General has demanded extensive documentation from the three North Texas companies, including employee details, information on products or services offered, financial records, and internal communications related to operations.

The investigation follows closely on the heels of Greg Abbott, the Texas Governor, calling for a wider review of H-1B visa usage in public schools, universities, and other taxpayer-funded institutions.

Abbott has questioned whether foreign workers are being hired for roles that could otherwise be filled by Texans, adding further momentum to the state’s tightening stance on visa oversight.
