Is Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu following the footsteps of his sworn enemy and YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy? Going by the calender of agitation programmes of the two leaders, it appears so. The followers of Jagan camp have alleged that the TDP Chief has developed some kind of a phobia and was keen on copying whatever Jagan does as far as highlighting public issues is concerned.

The agitation on remunerative prices for farmers is the latest instance of Naidu's desperation to catch up with Jagan, they say. Jagan has announced that he would embark on a 48-hour hunger strike at Guntur from May 15 to highlight the plight of farmers and demand a fair deal for their produce. After the announcement was carried prominently in the media, the TDP came up with a statement saying that Naidu would visit the market yards in Krishna district on Friday and meet farmers to express solidarity with them in their fight for rightful implementation of the Minimum Support Price for their produce.

Though Naidu will hit the streets two days before Jagan's stir on the same cause, it is still seen as an after-thought because it was YSR Congress Party which had first made the announcement. However, the TDP sources maintained that the programme was chalked out long ago but there was delay in announcement. In the past, Jagan had taken up "Rythu Deeksha' at Vijayawada which was followed by Naidu's indefinite fast in Hyderabad demanding higher compensation for rain-hit farmers.
